The Spoilers is the twentieth chapter of Taran Wanderer. Here the hero is called upon to join battle for the first time, and to learn what it means to lead men in peril of their lives.
Taran and Gurgi arrived at Commot Isav in the Free Commots with a cartload of ceramic wares for its people. However, he found the men meeting on the matter of a band of raiders who had entered the area. Taran deduced that these raiders were in fact Dorath and his so-called Company, and
suggested a plan of defense that would surprise the spoilers and turn them away. The men -- including Drudwas Son of Pebyr and his young son Llassar -- agreed to the plan, despite Taran's being a stranger to them.
During the raid Llassar fought alongside Taran and took a knife on his behalf from Gloff, but survived the wound. Dorath's band were either killed or scattered.
