Oh wow, I can't believe I missed Hemsworth! I've seen Snow White twice and I'm a fan of Hemsworth, but somehow he doesn't quite look himself in that shot. It's stretched a bit, perhaps. Anyway, good selection.
My Dorath pic is Otto Gratz, a German actor who played the despicable henchman Walter in Pillars of the Earth. He'd be perfect for the yellow-haired mercenary, IMO, esp. if he grew his hair out a bit! NoahDavidHenson (talk) 02:35, April 3, 2013 (UTC)
Hello, Nsummerf! Thanks for your pic uploads! If you'll check out The River chapter from The Black Cauldron, you'll see I've moved your terrific, outstanding, fantastic Disney concept sketch up a bit, and re-sized it so it fits better with the text. I hope you're happy with the change. I couldn't be more pleased you're here! NoahDavidHenson (talk) 05:19, March 26, 2013 (UTC)
I consider that Disney pic a major contribution to this wiki. If you have any more like it -- I understand there are 100s or perhaps 1000s of Black Cauldron production sketches floating around out there -- please don't hesitate to post them! NoahDavidHenson (talk) 03:05, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
And hey, FYI, I moved your barrow pic from the chapter The Trap -- to its proper place in The Barrow. Check it out, the image is larger too. Thanks again for all the great new graphics! NoahDavidHenson (talk) 04:18, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
Heh, well, I'm glad you took that so well... because I also moved that awesome Disney gwythaint sketch to the chapter The Choice (replacing my previous shot of the Tevyn). The Horned King pic I shifted from the Achren chapter to the Horned King character entry, under the Disney subheading.
These are great pics and I hope you keep 'em coming -- even if I have to find a new home to display every one in its rightful glory! NoahDavidHenson (talk) 04:32, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
that sketch with the Horned King i dont blame you for moving thats back when Disney made the unfortunate choice to not have Achren, and possibly have Gwydion who that picture had, but they didnt have him
Hmm, I agree that could be Gwydion, though it might be Fflewddur, in some kind of gray-haired bowlderization. I wouldn't put anything past the animators who worked on the movie, they made many arbitrary and not-necessarily-good changes. Fflewddur winds up white-haired for some reason, so for all we know that skinny figure could be him.
It's exciting to think it might have been Gwydion, though. What a great film that would have been! NoahDavidHenson (talk) 04:47, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
The actor is fine I think, but his suit and tie are decidedly out of style in Prydain at the moment. ;-)
If you can find a pic of Sheen in some kind of period garb I'll take down the George Maharis shot, as he's a little too old (in my pic from the 1982 film, The Sword and the Sorcerer), but I haven't found anything else suitable for Magg.NoahDavidHenson (talk) 05:23, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
All the other pics are phenomenal; I'm re-sizing some and moving 'em around, but I just love all of them, especially the one with Eilonwy girding on Taran's sword. It's simply beautiful. NoahDavidHenson (talk) 05:25, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I've seen her site, she does very tasteful work. She could do production sketches for a film, if Disney ever decides to sell the rights. The Mouse considers the property box office poison, so someone else will have to take Prydain off their hands and do it justice. NoahDavidHenson (talk) 05:37, March 27, 2013 (UTC)
It would be fascinating to have a live-action Prydain series. I think the best way to do it would be in a TV miniseries format, like Game of Thrones or Pillars of the Earth (only not as violent!). The BBC did a Narnia series in the 80s that was low-budget-ish but still looked great and was loads of fun. These days with the technology available a Prydain miniseries could look gorgeous and thrill millions.
But! I don't think it would work as a tentpole action movie like the recent Disney Narnia films, because Pydain is less about spectacular spell-casting or battles, and more about the character dynamics and "little" moments of great emotional weight. You know what I mean, of course; but film producers won't necessarily see that angle, and they'll want to try to make the next whiz-bang Harry Potter crowd-pleaser. Prydain is more subtle, I think. NoahDavidHenson (talk) 05:03, March 29, 2013 (UTC)
Oh yes, I agree wholeheartedly. The action scenes could be brief but vivid, as in the books. And it should definitely be shot in Wales, if possible! Or, failing that, central Texas, which amazingly enough, resembles the Welsh hills rather nicely. NoahDavidHenson (talk) 01:57, March 30, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, it could either be condensed or expanded. A single season of 12 1-hour episodes could tell the story condensed (though we would lose some of Books 3 and 4 that way, I think). If expanded it could be presented in two such seasons, or even 3. Material from The Foundling could be folded into the narrative and backstory like Achren's history with Arawn could be presented in full...
It's all a pipe dream, of course, but it might happen if we will it into existence. ;-) NoahDavidHenson (talk) 02:52, March 30, 2013 (UTC)
Aha! Thank you. Paul Bettany. I thought it was Michael something and I kept doing searches for "Michael blond actor" and came up with nothing. Thanks, I'll add that to the thumb if you don't beat me to it. I think Rhys Ifans has a little more character in his face, but they're both probably too old at this point to play the character. Anyway, yes, thank you for the info! NoahDavidHenson (talk) 01:17, March 31, 2013 (UTC)
Hiddleston would be perfect, IMO. I think Bettany is too bland-looking; he's a good actor but he doesn't have the bard's "long, pointed nose" or lanky physique. Ifans or Hiddleston are a better match, IMO. Your mileage may vary! NoahDavidHenson (talk) 15:09, March 31, 2013 (UTC)
Oh yes, transport the whole production team from Snow White, including director Rupert Sanders. The style, tone, look and feel from that film would be a good match for a Prydain movie, but preferably with a better script. NoahDavidHenson (talk) 22:03, April 1, 2013 (UTC)
I'd be very happy to see Baker on make-up and prosthetics. As a master of apes and fantasy creatures, Baker would design a wonderful Gurgi -- not that he's an ape, but you know what I mean! Rick has the perfect set of skills for the job. His animatronic Llyan would be a wonder to behold -- for all those close-ups that CGI might not achieve convincingly.
As to music, Zimmer would be a fine choice, as would JN Howard; they worked together on Batman Begins and Howard scored Snow White.
A Prydain film/series is still just a dream, but it feels possible. The producers wouldn't have to spend $200 million on it, either; the entire Pillars of the Earth series was done in 2010 for $40 million. Prydain isn't as fantastical as Narnia or Potter; the magical elements are used sparingly, briefly yet vividly.
I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here! Maybe we can start a petition. :-D NoahDavidHenson (talk) 00:53, April 2, 2013 (UTC)
