If I'm not mistaken, which I might be, we are missing a Character under Allies: namely Taliesin, Chief Bard. Can you check and confirm for me one way or another? It might be that I'm blind, or that it's simply not registering on the Character page list.
Ah. Copy that. On a similar note, do (or should) the other characters (like Amrys) from The Foundling receive their own pages? Should we add in a section on Doli's page that covers his experiences in "The Stone"? I'm noticing these things as I'm taking stock of characters to add into my screenplay outlining software.
Whatever you think! I try to be as thorough as possible, and as you can see from the Recent Activity page, I've been adding little tweaks and details and new info and links where I've felt it appropriate to do so. You should and do have the same freedom! I would suggest checking the Search field before creating any new pages, but other than that: Have fun with it!
Also, we ought to add Modrona, Maibon's wife. And Goewin, Llonio's wife. (I think) ... unless they exist and just need to be linked. And possibly Regat, Llyr Half-Speech, Grimgower, Geraint, and Ga....the other one. I'll look into them at some point, unless you beat me to it. :-)
Ah. So here is where I want to see them all listed. Unless you are intentionally keeping only a select number under the groups here? I was thinking perhaps adding a sub-list of 'Foundling Characters', but you might have a better idea for organizing.
Update: I've added all of those to that list now. I'll consider if we ought to add in those other names. I'd love to see it be as comprehensive as the characters listed in O'Tunnel's Prydain Companion, even if it takes us to the middle of an entry. But I can make that a project for a future day when I'm not already considering adaptation stuff!
How is this page organized. Is it alphabetized? Or should it be? If so, I can do that.
I think a separate category for "Ancient or Legendary Characters" should be added to include people like Llyr and Menwy the Bard, since they can hardly be called "Allies" in the strict sense of the word. There is also the existing category of "Mentioned or Minor Characters" that same might fall under.
I'll tool around with it for a bit and see what solutions I can offer!
Okay, I've changed the groupings somewhat. Check it out and see what you think. I've listed them in the order of importance in their given category, mainly. If you want to change to alphabetical, I won't object.
Update: this looks great! I wish there were more neutral characters, but that's LA's to-do. I will sit with order of importance and see if I'd prefer alphabetical. Wish there was a drop-down for the user to change sorting order. Nice work adding more characters to heroes. I agree.
He very well could be, and certainly of Doli, not sure how long FF live. The beginning of The Stone hints that Maibon is the guy who speaks to Dallben on the road at the end of The Foundling. It's also possible he's much, much older by the time he meets Coll, but he aged very quickly in The Foundling (or had an unnaturally long life). But either way, he's not legendary like Rhitta, or Menwy, or an ancestor like Kadwyr, or Angharad.
Right, I remember that now! But keep in mind that Dallben is 379 years old at the outset of BoT. He does age quickly but the text is ambiguous on what this means, exactly. Did he look like an old man for 350 years? It's kind of hard to say. Anyway, wherever you think Maibon belongs, we'll leave him there.
Incidentally, I added the "Ancestral" bit to that category to include characters' immediate forebears, such as Godo, Collfrewr and Angharad.
I was just reading your page on The Drynwyn in hopes to find some information to use in my university project. I noticed in the comments section you left this quote - "However, according to its inscription the sword could be dangerous to those it deemed unworthy of its power or not yet ready for it, either refusing to be drawn or burning the wielder. Taran tried desperately to free the blade from its sheathe but was only partly successful and had his arm badly scorched in the bargain."
I wondered, is this directly from one of Alexander's books - if so, would you happen to have the publishing information that it came from? I'd love to use the quote, but cannot do so without the citation!! The year, book name and page number would be extremelly useful to me - or just the name so I can look it up as I don't want you to go to much trouble.
Louhemming1, I must apologize for the lateness of my reply. The answer, if it remains useful to you, is The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander. See the inserted table for publication information. The events in question take place in Chapter XVIII, "The Flame of Dyrnwyn", p. 198. I hope this helps!
I'm Peony, one of the admins on The Green Ember Wiki. Just in case you aren't familiar with The Green Ember series, it is a series of children's adventure medieval-fantasy books featuring anthropomorphic rabbits, wolves, and birds of prey. They are authored by Christian writer S. D. Smith. In case you aren't familiar with affiliations, it basically just means that our wikis would be "allies," so to speak. Most wikis put the wordmarks of their affiliates on their main page.
That being said, would you be interested in affiliating the Pyrdain Wiki with The Green Ember Wiki? I just thought I would ask because the two topics are similar as genre and content go. :)
Hello again, Pinkpeony73. I see I have to apologize for the lateness of my response! Also, I have to admit I don't know how to post my own wiki's wordmark, and I'm sure I don't know what to do with yours. Please advise me as to how to proceed. Thanks and cheers.
No problem! I already uploaded your wordmark to our wiki. As for ours, you can do whatever you'd like with it -- you could put in on your front page, or create a page designed specifically for showcasing your affiliates, like the Disney Wiki did here: https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Disney_Wiki:Affiliates. :)
Hey, Ob! Apologies for not responding earlier. Yes, I've been off a-questing... for a job! Wish me luck; it's a tough market. Anyway, I appreciate your changing the tense back to past-, I think it reads better, conveying a "days of yore" feel to the summaries. It will also be a lot less work for you! Also, I've read your series outline and am keen to know about the additional subplots. When you have a few minutes, please e-mail me with eludications. Happy Wandering!
Sent you a message today so check your email for anything from Brendan Wanderer. The email address may be a different one. I attached a jpg screenshot of my vision for season 1. I need the episodes with temporary names, mostly based on chapter titles. You can see the chapters numbers listed in brackets after the main episode title. Then I've named the A,B,C and sometimes D stories for each episode on separate branches. I could go into more detail but this should give you a sense of where I intend to take this. I still need to complete the treatments, that's to follow. Let me know if you have any questions, especially re: the Coll storyline.
Just wanted to say thank you for always centering the route maps for me in the chapter link bar. I try do do the same, but I don't always have the option to center them, vs justified left/right. Any tips?
Also, what are the dimensions you've settled on? I'll try to keep them consistent.
Of course, Brendan! Centering an image is easy in Edit mode. All ye have to do is select [ ] Source Editor -- you'll see it at the bottom of the drop-down menu directly to the left of the Cancel button. Then in the midst of all that text, find the image and, in place of the word "thumb", type "center" (with the American spelling). I found that 309 px is the optimal size for your excellent route maps -- except the one on The Gwythaints page, which I noticed needed a bit more space. You're doing a fantastic job, BTW! I am loving all your additions and adjustments. Keep it up! It's inspiring me to do little edits here and there as well.
Sorry about slow reply, I've been busy. I don't really have much time for this wiki any more, but I would happily pass admin rights on to you, so you can snip the loose ends as you think would be best :)
No worries, Toothless! Merrystar was kind enough to give me Admin powers -- an enormous privelege which I'm trying to not let go to my head. ;-) I'm very passionate about the Prydain Wiki, so if you have any ideas for improvements that you just don't have the time for, let me know and I'll see what I can do. And thanks for the reply. NoahDavidHenson (talk) 21:57, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
